Rough Green Snake

Isn't she a beaut! (invoking my horrible Crocodile Hunter accent).  I came home last Saturday afternoon to find this 2 foot long rough green snake foraging for insects on my driveway. I used to see these beautiful, docile snakes often here in the South. However, it's been many years since I've seen one.  Perhaps the over-development of the Atlanta metro area has led to their decline in my neighborhood. So, it was good to see her. These amazingly gentle snakes allow you to get up close. After my wife snapped this photo on my iPhone 4, I released the green snake back in the garden and allowed her to continue foraging for insects. Much better than pesticides any day!
