DCP 79: Revenge of the Great Camera Shootout with Zacuto's Steve Weiss
Zacuto founder Steve Weiss joins the Digital Convergence Podcast panel to talk about the Revenge of the Great Camera Shootout 2012. Zacuto - not only makers of top notch tools for filmmakers - are also great educators of the craft of filmmaking. They have entertained and educated many filmmakers with their outstanding webisodes including: Critics, FilmFellas, and The Great Camera Shootout series.
Revenge of the Great Camera Shootout 2012 takes a different approach from previous episodes of the Great Camera Shootouts series. According to Zacuto: "The test, administered by Bruce Logan, ASC, shows two ways of looking at cameras–empirical and subjective, with a strong emphasis on subjective. The test was conducted in February 2012 at the Tribeca Flashpoint Academy in Chicago and the color grading was completed using the Baselight color grading system at Filmworkers Club also in Chicago. Some camera manufacturers opted to color grade at other facilities but used the Baselight system as well. Zacuto acted as the central organizing body for the project and documented the production and post-production processes."
Incidentally, Revenge of the Great Camera Shootout 2012 features great filmmakers who have appeared previously on the Digital Convergence Podcast, including Rodney Charters, Philip Bloom, and Michael Koerbel. Please check out those early episodes of the podcast. There are some great insights from these filmmakers in these older episodes of the podcast. Steve Weiss has also previously appeared on the show - way back in episode #24.
Steve's insight into the business of filmmaking, how to conduct great interviews (yes, we were taking copius notes), and having a passion for actively practicing our craft is priceless. This is one of the main reasons I do this podcast - because I get to talk with and listen to great pros willing to share what they know - and I get to share those converstations with you.
Fail often, and don't make the same mistake twice. Words to live by.
Please spread the word about the podcast. Thank you for all the podcast love.
