DCP 54: March of the Unicorns - Canon C300 and RED Scarlet-X

Chris Fenwick and I talk about the November 3, 2011, announcements from both Canon and RED. I'm sure that it's purely coincidence that the announcements came on the same day. Anyhow, high end movie making continues to advance with these two cameras. The Canon C300 and the RED Scarlet-X's fully kitted out $20K+ price tags may seem expensive to filmmakers on a budget. Budget minded filmmakers drawn to the luscious image of the Canon 5D Mark II and it's little brothers may wonder how these higher end cameras fit in. We talk about another unicorn, the mythical Canon 5D Mark 300 (Chris' new name for the successor of the 5D Mark II).

We discuss specs, dip into a bit of pixel peeping, and then come up for air talking about the craft of filmmaking. Our conversation touches on the latest release from Avid: Media Composer 6.

We had a lot of fun on this episode. Why not let us know what you think about the Canon C300 and RED Scarlet. Do you see yourself using these cameras in the future?
