First of all, I want to thank all the customers who purchased my handmade sketchbooks over the last two or three years. The time has come for me to discontinue making and selling these sketchbooks.
Unfortunately, obtaining quality paper reliably and undamaged has became difficult over the last few months making it difficult to fulfill orders. The cost of paper and materials have doubled since I began making sketchbooks. Further, making and fulfilling the orders were taking a great deal of my time away from painting and producing my podcast.
Now that my stock has been depleted, I have decided to no longer make the sketchbooks and offer them for sale. In the future as time permits, I may do a step-by-step video on how I made these sketchbooks so that you can make and bind your own if you so desire.

Handmade Sketchbooks for Artists
Each sketchbook is hand made by me. I personally cut the front and back covers, cut to size the Kraft cover stock, and carefully create a beautiful cover for each notebook. Each are truly a one-of-a-kind.
Each sheet of Kraft 80lb coverstock is a beautiful, rich, earthy tan color with random natural fibers and speckles showing through. It’s perfect for providing a good middle tone value for a drawings and paint sketches. The paper has a smooth surface. It’s easy to draw on with artist pens and markers, oil paint and gouache. When using oil paint, you may want to lay in a quick coat of clear acrylic medium to prevent the oil paint from breaking down the paper over time. I’ve used fountain pens, Sakura Micron pens, Winsor and Newton Brush Markers, and Faber-Castell brush pens with good success on this paper. There is little or no bleed through when using Sharpie markers.
Each sketchbook contains 60 sheets contains of sturdy 80lb Kraft cover stock. Each sheet is cut to 6” x 12” in size. Your actual drawing area on the sheet is about 11.5” since holes are punched at the far left edge of the sheet for binding purposes. The backboard and cover are cut slightly larger than the paper size so that the paper sits nicely in-between.
The backboard for each sketchbook is cut from triple-thick chip board. This makes for a firm, strong, steady backing for drawing and painting out in the field or in the studio. The front cover is cut from double-thick chipboard. I custom wrap the cover with a premium Italian acid free paper from Cavallini Papers & Co. Inc. For each cover, I select a section of Cavallini wrap containing a beautiful, whimsical vintage print. No two covers are exactly alike! I use acid-free, archival PVA bookbinding glue. I punch square holes for a classier look in each sketchbook and then bind the front cover, Kraft paper pages, and back cover together with 1” black 2:1 twin-loop binding wire. This allows the sketchbook to lay flat - no matter which page you are working on.

Note: for a while I offered watercolor paper as an option but since there was little demand for it I have discontinued it. Most artists have overwhelmingly preferred the Kraft paper option. However, if you want watercolor paper, please send me a note and I’ll prepare you a custom quote.
